What is Reiki energy has been explained in the first chapter. There are number of levels of Reiki. Today most Reiki healers teach Reiki in five levels, Reiki-I, Reiki-II, Reiki-III A, Reiki-III B (also called Master level) and Grand Master level. For each level the Master/Grand master gives attunement/initiation. In Usui Reiki, after level-I and II, Master level was taught. It was only after Tibetan practices were added into it that Reiki-III A level was introduced into it. Modern Reiki healers added Grand Master level too into Reiki.

Reiki level – I is called Sho Den in Japan. In this class the student learns Principles of Reiki, Reiki history, features of Reiki and hand positions for healing. Some healers teach removals of Blocks and some meditation techniques also in Reiki-I level. The emphasis is given on self-healing in this level and most Reiki healers insist on 21 days self cleaning by Reiki, after attunement.
